The five people who have cared for me as a child would be the following:
1. Ruth, my neighbor. 2. Ms. Timko , my fourth grade teacher. 3. Sandy, my best friends mom.
4. Karen, my pastors wife 5. Margaret , my grandmother. .
Ruth was a neighbor who lived next door to us as we were growing up. Ruth would let us come over and sit and drink tea at her kitchen table. She would tell me that I was doing a good job when I would show her my report cards. She would let me help out with doing chores around her house and pay me. She would hug me when I was feeling down and just show me that I was special.
Ms. Timko was my fourth grade teacher and she took the time to help me realize that I was special . She would see the struggles I was going through and would take the time to ask me if there was anything she could do for me. She would let me stay in and "help" her out. I was allowed to do errands for her and just showed over all compassion for me. I think this is who I took my desire to be a teacher after.
Sandy, this was my best friends mom. She knew when I needed to stay at her house and needed to go home. She would allow me to eat over there and would make sure my clothes were clean and my hair was fixed. She would give me hugs when I got there and when I left. She knew the true hell I was living in as a child and was that one person I could turn to. I was totally destroyed when she passed. I felt like my world was coming to an end. But something inside me kept telling me to keep going. Even now when I get down I hear that voice saying to me .....keep going you will achieve great things.
When I was young my parents sent us off to church, they would never go with us, nor would they show up at any performances. But the pastors wife Karen was there. She would give hugs and encouragement whenever she could. I did not attend church too long, but often wonder if Karen would still be proud.
Last but definitely not least my grandmother, Margaret. She had several children which meant she had several grandchildren and great grandchildren. But no matter what Grandma always made you feel special she gave you that love in a joking , playful manner which helps me even to this day. Knowing my Grandma would be proud of me keeps me going.
All these ladies hold a special place in my heart. They taught me no matter what be there for that other person. They taught me to love children, they are God's gift and to treat them special.I know that I would not be who I am today without each of these beautiful ladies. All but one is in heaven but even there I think they know that they were a big impact on my life. And without them I would not be who I am. I am just waiting to run into the one that is still alive and let her know what a great impact she was on my life.
